Moriyah’s character arc is wonderful to experience. The characters are multifaceted, with fully realized motivations and realistic emotions. Strong characterization, a deep sense of place, and a slow-burning romance are all a part of this wonderful story. Because it’s not been touched on a lot (at least not that I’ve read), it feels very fresh and new even within an ancient setting.Īll of the elements of this story are equally strong and combine beautifully. I was intrigued by this premise for sure and feel that it works on so many levels. I’ve never read any other Biblical or historical fiction novels set during the time of the book of Joshua, nor any that had anything to do with the cities of refuge. She’s become one of my favorite authors, so I was eager to get my hands on her new series opener. I wasn’t sure if Connilyn Cossette could top herself, but I enjoyed A Light on the Hill just as much as her previous release.
